Vehicles are an important part of transport and communication in our day to day life activities. With the development of science and technology, the area of influence of trade and transport expanded far and wide. Efficient and fast moving transport is required for the fast development of a country. But when we talk about choosing private or personal vehicles we may take it more seriously where the safety becomes the first and foremost concern. This post is about five new technologies which were invented to ease the personal transportation by providing more assistance, to provide more safety and decrease accidents, to decrease time travels and as well as to decrease pollution.
1:- Self-Balancing Motorcycles
Motorcycles are among the common vehicles used for personal transportation. The enjoyment of riding motorcycles is unmatchable to any other vehicles. But, when we talk about safety it may not fully fulfill our quota for being 100 % safe. Although it depends upon the riders how they ride the vehicle for their safety concerns. The rider may ride it safely but if the opposite side vehicle commits any fault on the road then they may meet an accident. Simply the main point is that the present day motorcycles cannot resist or recover themselves from falling after meeting an accident or any mistake done by the rider whether the rider is professional or amateur. It is easy to balance the motorcycle when it runs fast but when it comes to parking, riding at traffic jam or taking turns it needs to ride slowly. Wouldn’t that be good if motorcycles can balance itself to stand upright or recover from falling after being mistakenly pushed by some other vehicles?
Such type of self-balancing motorcycle is invented by Honda Motor Company which possess Riding Assist technology. It is a self-balancing motorcycle which is capable of remaining upright without the need for a kickstand. Honda didn’t use any gyroscopes in these motorcycles instead, the company has taken its Uni-Cub mobility research and applied it to a real-world problem. When these self-balancing motorcycles slow down on a road, the front forks (the metal bars that connect the front wheel to the rest of the motorcycle) extend the front tire away from the rest of the cycle lowering its center of gravity which assists the rider to balance easily. These motorcycles can also be programmed or commanded to balance itself and follow the rider without being handled by the rider. Such type of friendly assisted self-balancing motorcycles is also under the process of development by other motor companies. Honda didn’t launch it for peoples use as it is still under more development and other companies are also working on their innovative technologies, but it will soon be made available for sale in the future.
Hoverboards (also known as self-balancing scooter or self-balancing board) are self-balancing personal transporters consisting of two motorized wheels connected to a pair of segmented pads on which the rider places their feet. The rider controls the speed by leaning forward or backward, and direction of travel by twisting the pads. These two-wheel scooters work on a rechargeable battery and can be used to travel wherever people want, like a cruise on a boardwalk, going shopping, riding to the gym, or just getting to and from work. Hoverboards are eco-friendly, cost-effective transporters which make our job easier and can be used by security officers, for medical cares, for factory uses etc. Surely it is one of the great prospects for personal transportation. Hoverboards can also be of different types such as one wheel hoverboards, handle segway self-balancing hoverboards, Bluetooth enabled hoverboards etc. Although it is not used by everyone as many people do not know much about it but it has started to attract people slowly who buy them for enjoyment. In future, it will surely be used by people for their personal transportation if they don’t want to ride a cycle or go by walking to visit a nearer location.
3:- Autonomous Cars
An autonomous car (also known as self-driving car, driverless car or robotic car) is a vehicle which runs automatically without human input by sensing its environment and navigating the routes. The concepts and prototypes for self-driving cars were actually proposed or designed at the 1920s. Some companies like Google, Tesla, Audi etc. are working on new innovative self-driving cars and even tested them. A self-driving car designed by Delphi Automotive became the first automated vehicle to drive from one coast of America to the other. In future, if self-driving cars run on roads then it can communicate with each other through GPS or any navigation system which can decrease traffic jams and accidents. Although these cars are not announced fully safe because many adults may not risk their life believing a robot and many hackers can hack the cars automatic systems taking control of the car causing accidents. Google announced that their self-driving cars have been involved in 4 minor accidents, all caused by other drivers. More companies are working on this project and trying hard to make these cars safer for normal people. After the availability of these cars, many people who don’t even know to ride a car can travel to their desired location without a driver. These cars are not available for sale and we have to wait and watch how these cars come out on roads which would be safely assured to carry passengers from one location to another.
4:- Flying Cars
After cars had become more affordable for normal people the roads seem to be more crowded than before. With the increase of cars on roads, the traffic also increases which sometimes become uncontrollable by the cops. To solve this problem sometimes roads are expanded and the traffic signal or security system is made stronger. In terms of travel timing, to reach a certain place, people can get late due to heavy traffic jams like for examples attending important meetings, taking serious patients to hospitals etc. Isn’t that be good if a car that can fly or even run at roads can be used in an emergency for faster personal or public transport to avoid traffic jams?
Such type of car is invented by AeroMobil s.r.o company of Slovakia which can be converted from an automobile to an aircraft. It is a unique combination of car and airplane which will give people two options either to ride at roads or to take aerial routes to cut travel time. The vehicle is more efficient than other aerial vehicles and people can travel up to thousands of kilometers while enjoying breath-taking views from the sky. These flying cars will follow the same navigation systems or aerial routes used by planes to reach a certain place. The company is making sure whether the interface of the driver’s cabin is user-friendly, but separate training sessions will also be held for the people who will buy it. AeroMobil is not even the only company operating in this project, US-based Terrafugia is another company. The European Union itself is working on a project called myCopter, all focused on taking transport and communication to the next level.
5:- Zero-Emission Electric Vehicles
While riding cars we forget about the harm or pollution its exhaust engine causes to the environment. In case of this, such vehicles are needed which will be more energy efficient than the normal internal combustion engine vehicles used today. A zero-emissions vehicle is a vehicle that emits no exhaust gas from the onboard source of power. Many companies are working on the onboard Electric, Hybrid, and Fuel cell engines which will generate electricity to drive the vehicle (and/or recharge the batteries) and the resultant “exhaust” will be water vapor only. The potential of electric cars is greater now than ever before. Traditional automakers including Daimler AG, General Motors, Volkswagen, and others are all investing heavily in electric vehicles. And Tesla, of course, has built an entire business on battery-powered cars. But electric automobiles are nothing new. They actually have a rich history in the US and, at one point, were even the dominant type of car. But due to lack of production funds and large-scale manufacturing, it didn’t become famous like the internal combustion engine cars. The Nissan Leaf electric car is a zero emission vehicle (ZEV), and ranks as the world’s best-selling plug-in electric car in history, with sales of 200,000 units by December 2015. Although these type of cars are already implemented for use by many countries but not widely by everyone which will surely change to everyone using zero-emission vehicles in the near future.
